Viterra expands its service offering to Australian growers

Viterra is pleased to announce it has entered into an agreement with Cargill in Australia to acquire the GrainFlow storage and handling facilities in Maitland, Crystal Brook, Mallala, and Pinnaroo in South Australia and Dimboola in Victoria, along with the mobile ship loader in Adelaide, South Australia.

Viterra will integrate the facilities into its existing storage and handling network and has plans to make significant initial and ongoing investments to optimise the operations in line with the company’s strategy of linking upcountry sites to deep water ports by fast rail to move maximum tonnes of grain to market during the first half of the year.

“We remain committed to growing and developing our network. This acquisition will allow us to further deliver efficiencies for the South Australian and Western Victorian supply chains, delivering tremendous opportunities for our customers,” stated David Mattiske, Chief Executive Officer for Viterra Limited.

Cargill has a long-term access agreement to source grain from Viterra’s export supply chain, allowing them to continue to purchase grain from growers at these facilities and across Viterra’s Australian network.

To further support Viterra’s customers in Australia, in July the company announced an AUD $35 million investment at its Wolseley storage and handling facility. The project includes expanding the site and introducing fast rail loading to connect the site with Viterra’s deepwater Outer Harbor terminal creating efficiencies and value for our grower and buyer customers.

The acquisition is expected to close the first half of 2025, subject to satisfaction of customary closing conditions, including approval by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB). Terms of the sale are not disclosed.
